<p>Children aged 18 months through five years of age attend classes two or three days per week (depending on age), while parents participate in the classroom and manage the business of the Co-op.  Children develop skills which prepare them for school, and parents learn to be more effective teachers of their own children.  The school uses High/Scope curriculum.</p>
<p><strong>The Co-op offers children:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Developmentally appropriate activities for social, emotional, physical, academic and creative growth</li>
<li>Interaction with children of similar ages which fosters growth and development of social skills</li>
<li>Clearly defined, comfortable play/learning areas with a veriety of equipment, learning games, expressive materials and art supplies</li>
<li>Opportunities to explore our South Whidbey community through field trips to local areas</li>
<li>An expanding world view with classroom visits from firefighters, dentits, musicians, and other community members</li>
<li>A safe, nurturing learning environment with caring, acceopting adults (a professional teacher and two or three &#8216;working&#8217; parents each day of class)</li>
<li>The chance to build self-confidence and a positive self-image</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>The Co-op offers parents:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>The ability to be an active partner in their child&#8217;s education</li>
<li>Knowledge of child development &#8211; through written materials, parent education meetings, lectures and discussions</li>
<li>Opportunities to work with a parent educator to learn a variety of parenting styles and options</li>
<li>The experience of interacting and observing children in a preschool setting</li>
<li>Opportunity to make friends and get problem-solving support from other families in the Co-op</li>
<li>Active leadership roles as managers of the Co-op by participating on the Parent Board or one of the preschool committees</li>

<p>The mission of the South Whidbey Cooperative Preschool is to provide a developmentally appropriate program in a nurturing, loving, safe and stimulating environment, in which parental involvement enriches the learning process.</p>

<h2>Family Life Program Objectives</h2>
<ol>
<li>To assist parents’ understanding of child development, behavior and misbehavior. </li>
<li>To provide necessary skills for effective parent/child communication, and implementation of positive guidance techniques. </li>
<li>To build confidence in parental roles as the child’s first and most important teacher. </li>
<li>To involve parents actively in their child’s “formal” educational experience, and to lay the foundation for continued involvement as the child enters primary school. </li>
